Dead By April are the Arctic Monkeys of metal. The quintet from Gothenburg, Sweden, had over a million plays on their MySpace before even signing a record deal, they have a huge following despite only releasing their debut album today and they use the internet as their own personal playground with lots of activity on MySpace, video studio diaries, street teams etc.

The Swedes offer a, if not unique then indeed accomplished, blend of pop and metal - MTV friendly melodies with heavy guitars, clean vocals with roaring screams and growling and lots of keyboards to really piss off the heavy metal purists.

You see, one could easily dismiss Dead By April as way too radio friendly to be really cool and basically nothing more than Backstreet Boys with tattoos. One would, however, be wrong. First of all you must bow your head (and raise your fist) to the pure craftsmanship of the young Swedes both when it comes to writing songs and playing them.

You have to be dead and/or paralyzed not to bang your head just a little bit while listening to the single ‘Losing You’ with a brilliant blend of frontman Jimmie’s light, almost feminine voice, super angry growling and a chorus that you will never get out of your head. Ever.

And while we could go on and on about how the production could be a bit dirtier or how the songs are a bit too similar, the really cool thing about Dead By April is that they don’t give a rat’s ass what we think. They know exactly what they are doing and they are going to be huge whether you like it or not
